Ottawa, Ontario - Following the conclusion of 25 events throughout the season that comprise the Jump Canada Series, eight-time Olympian Ian Millar of Perth, ON, has emerged victorious for the first time since the Series’ inception in 1998.
Riding In Style, Susan Grange’s 10-year-old bay Dutch Warmblood gelding, Millar amassed a total of 256.80 points in this national show jumping series throughout the 2005 competition season. With impressive results including victories in the $50,000 ‘Classic at Palgrave’ Grand Prix in Palgrave, ON, on May 15 and the $60,000 CN Grand Prix in Bromont, QC, held July 24, the world famous athlete was well on the way to capturing the title. Following the final event in the Jump Canada Series, the $60,000 CN World Cup Qualifier held at Toronto’s Royal Horse Show, it was official – Millar had claimed his first Jump Canada Series title. Not far behind Millar in second place is Chris Pratt of Belfountain, ON, who racked up 237.35 points aboard Rivendell, a 10-year-old Westphalian gelding also owned by Susan Grange of Lothlorien Farm. The pair’s successful season included winning the $100,000 World Cup Qualifier Grand Prix at the CSI-W Tournament of Champions on September 25 in Palgrave, ON. Finishing in third place with 212.50 points was Margie Gayford of Sharon, ON, partnered with Shawn Littler’s nine-year-old Hannoverian gelding, Stuntman. The duo shot up the standings toward the end of the season, helped by a third place finish in the Grand Prix at the CSI-W Tournament of Champions. Millar was recognized for his achievement in a special ceremony during the Royal Horse Show where he was awarded the prestigious Jump Canada Trophy, generously donated by long-time show jumping supporter, Barbara Anderson of Alberta. About the Jump Canada Series The Jump Canada Series has proven successful in providing a national show jumping circuit with high standards of competition across the country. The 2005 Series opened on March 13 at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, AB, with the $25,000 TD Canada Trust Grand Prix and concluded on November 9, 2005, at the Royal Horse Show in Toronto, ON, with the $60,000 CN World Cup Qualifier. The overall standings are calculated using the best six results plus the final event in the series. For the past three years, the winner of the Jump Canada series has been Ainsley Vince aboard Catch 22. Other past winners include John Pearce and Jamco’s Vagabond in 1998, Beth Underhill and Altair in 1999, Frankie Chesler and Ravenna Z in 2000 and Jill Henselwood and Toyzrus in 2001. Il s’agissait d’une première pour le cavalier qui ne s’était jamais mérité le trophée Saut d’obstacles Canada depuis la création du circuit en 1998. C’est en selle sur In Style, un talentueux Warmblood hollandais de 10 ans appartenant à Susan Grange, que Millar a accumulé les 256,80 points gagnants. Le cavalier de réputation internationale et sa monture ont connu de brillantes victoires dont le Grand prix Classic at Palgrave (50 000$) le 15 mai et le Grand prix CN (60 000$) à Bromont le 24 juillet. La dernière étape du Circuit était l’épreuve de qualification de Coupe du monde CN (60 000$) qui se tenait lors du Toronto Royal Horse Show. En obtenant la première position, Millar s’emparait de la considérable bourse mais aussi d’un premier titre de champion du Circuit Saut d’obstacles Canada. Chris Pratt de Belfountain, Ontario, a pris la seconde place non loin derrière Millar puisqu’il s’est mérité 237,35 points avec Rivendell, un hongre Westphalien de 10 ans qui appartient également à Susan Grange de Lothlorien Farm. Pendant cette prolifique saison, Pratt et Rivendell ont entre autres gagné le Grand prix (100 000$) servant d’épreuve de qualification de Coupe du monde lors du CSI-W Tournament of Champions, le 25 septembre à Palgrave en Ontario. La troisième place du Circuit Saut d’obstacles Canada a été remportée par Margie Gayford, une résidente de Sharon en Ontario. Elle montait Stuntman, un Hanovrien de 9 ans dont le propriétaire est M. Shawn Littler. La cavalière et sa monture ont sécurisé leur position au classement vers la fin de la saison grâce au Grand prix du CSI-W Tournament of Champions où ils ont remporté la troisième place. Une cérémonie spéciale a été présentée pendant le Royal Horse Show afin de décerner à Ian Millar le trophée Saut d’obstacles Canada, une récompense qui est, soulignons-le, une généreuse contribution de Barbara Anderson (Alberta), fidèle supporter de la discipline. À propos du Circuit Saut d’obstacles Canada Le Circuit Saut d’obstacles remplit avec succès son mandat de promouvoir la tenue de compétitions nationales de haut niveau partout au pays.
