Ottawa, Ontario --- Jump Canada has named Eric Lamaze as the ProChaps ‘Athlete of the Month’ for May.
Lamaze was chosen based on his third place finish in the prestigious 300,000 Euro Aachen Grand Prix held May 21 in Aachen, Germany. Riding Hickstead, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion owned by Torrey Pines Stable and Ashland Stables Inc., Lamaze was clear in both the first and second rounds of competition over the demanding courses set by German course designer Frank Rothenberger. Returning for the jump-off, Lamaze and Hickstead once again produced a clear round in the lightning fast jump-off, stopping the clock at 58.60 seconds to secure third place. Current World Cup Champions Marcus Ehning won the Grand Prix while French Olympian Herve Godignon took second. "It was a nice show and it was great to represent Canada - to do well was even better,” said Lamaze, a three-time World Championship competitor who was competing in Aachen, Germany for the first time in his career. “It is always nice to be named the ProChaps 'Athlete of the Month' and be recognized for your accomplishments over the past month.” In recognition of his achievement, Lamaze will receive a pair of state-of-the-art riding chaps, compliments of ProChaps. Lamaze s’est mérité cette distinction en raison de sa performance lors du Grand prix d’Aachen en Allemagne à bord de Hickstead, l’étalon warmblood hollandais de dix ans de Torrey Pines Stable et Ashland Stables Inc. Le 21 mai dernier, Lamaze s’est en effet classé troisième dans cette prestigieuse épreuve valant 300 000 euros. Avec aucune faute dans les deux manches de l’exigeant parcours créé par l’Allemand Frank Rothenberger, le couple se qualifiait pour le barrage qui fut franchi à la vitesse de l’éclair, toujours indemne, avec un chrono de 58,60 secondes, bon pour la troisième place. C’est le champion en titre de la Coupe du monde Marcus Ehning qui a été le vainqueur, suivi du cavalier olympique français Hervé Godignon. « C’était un beau concours et j’étais bien heureux de représenter le Canada, a commenté Lamaze, mais je dois dire que c’est encore plus excitant quand on réussit à bien se classer! » Lamaze, qui, rappelons-le, a pris part à trois Championnats du monde, participait au Grand prix d’Aachen en Allemagne pour la première fois de sa carrière. « Il est toujours très apprécié d’être nommé Athlète ProChaps du mois et de voir souligner nos prestations du mois précédent », a-t-il dit pour terminer.
