Jon Costin of Puslinch, ON rode his 10-year-old Hannoverian gelding Wholio to a second place finish in the FEI Grand Prix after receiving a score of 64.875%. The talented duo put in another stellar performance in the FEI Grand Prix Freestyle, this time bumping up their score to 66.75%. “Wholio is feeling more secure in the Grand Prix and I am really looking forward to more success with him,” stated Costin, who is currently ranked on the Canadian Equestrian Team (CET) Dressage Short List “A” with Wholio. Rounding out the top five in the FEI Grand Prix was Nancy MacLachlan of Terra Cotta, ON, another member of the CET Dressage Short List “A”. Aboard her 10-year-old Ukrainian gelding, Ariston, MacLachlan earned a score of 61%. The pair returned to the ring in the FEI Grand Prix Special, where tight scoring put them in third position with 62.72%. After getting warmed up with a second place finish in the FEI Prix St. Georges (PSG), veteran Tom Dvorak of Hillsburgh, ON, earned third place in the FEI Intermediaire 1 after scoring 64.75% with Alyson Carpenter’s 10-year-old Hannoverian gelding, Fortissimo. In the Intermediaire I Freestyle, Dvorak rode the talented gelding to a second place finish with an impressive score of 68.417%. “Fortissimo was really good in the Prix St. George, and I was quite pleased with the Freestyle. Overall I was very happy, and had a really positive showing,” commented Dvorak, who also received top ribbons in the lower levels with his younger horses. The Intermediaire 1 Freestyle also saw Ute Busse, finish in seventh position. The Breslau, ON native received a score of 62.667% aboard Lindor’s Finest, the nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion she co-owns with Sylvia Carlton. Right at her heels in eighth place, with a score of 62.625%, was Gary Vander Ploeg from King City, ON with his 10-year-old Hannoverian gelding Cezanne. Even with contemptible weather, Canadians were pleased with both their results and the venue. “The Paxtons put on a top show, the footing held up to four days of rain, and the stabling was excellent” commented Costin. “The Canadians, as usual, are good competition for the Americans on their home ground at these big shows.” Dvorak, who was also very happy with the competition stated, “Despite the bad weather, it was a top notch show. They did a really good job and had super organization.” He continued, “On the whole Canadians did well and were in the ribbons consistently. Jon Costin (Puslinch, Ontario) s’est mérité une seconde place assortie d’une note de 64,875% lors du Grand prix FEI sur la selle de son Hanovrien de dix ans, Wholio. Le talentueux duo s’est ensuite illustré en reprise libre de Grand prix en faisant grimper sa note à 66,75%. « Wholio se sent plus à l’aise en Grand prix et je m’attends à obtenir bien du succès avec lui », a déclaré Costin qui fait partie de la liste courte A de l’Équipe équestre canadienne de dressage avec ce cheval. C’était Nancy MacLachlan (Terra Cotta, Ontario), une autre membre de la liste courte A de l’EEC, qui fermait la marche des cinq premiers en Grand prix. Elle a obtenu un résultat de 61% sur son hongre Ukrainien de dix ans, Ariston. Le couple est revenu dans la carrière pour le Grand prix Spécial où des résultats très serrés lui ont valu la troisième place avec 62,72%. Après un bel échauffement en Prix St-Georges FEI où il a pris la deuxième place, le cavalier vétéran Tom Dvorak (Hillsburgh, Ontario), s’est classé troisième en Intermédiaire 1 FEI, recevant 64,75% de la part des juges sur Fortissimo, le Hanovrien de dix ans d’Alyson Carpenter. En reprise libre d’Intermédiaire 1, Dvorak a conduit son habile monture vers la seconde marche du podium avec l’impressionnante marque de 68,417%. « Fortissimo a été très bon en Prix St-Georges, et je suis vraiment satisfait de notre reprise libre. Dans l’ensemble je suis très heureux des résultats, ce fut un bon concours », a commenté Dvorak qui a aussi fait une bonne récolte de rubans dans les plus bas niveaux avec ses jeunes chevaux. La reprise libre d’Intermédiaire 1 a également été bien réussie par Ute Busse qui a pris la septième position. Cette cavalière, qui est née à Breslau, en Ontario, a reçu 62,667% sur Lindor’s Finest, l’étalon Warmblood hollandais de neuf ans qu’elle possède en copropriété avec Sylvia Carlton. Tout juste derrière elle, venait Gary Vander Ploeg (King City, Ontario) sur son Hanovrien de dix ans, Cezanne (62,625%). Bien que le temps n’ait pas été favorable, les cavaliers canadiens ont tous été ravis de leur participation à ce concours. « Les Paxton ont organisé un concours top niveau », a mentionné Costin. « La surface est restée bonne malgré les quatre jours de pluie et les chevaux étaient super bien logés. Comme d’habitude, les Canadiens sont de redoutables adversaires quand ils se déplacent aux gros concours de leurs voisins du Sud ». Dvorak, également enchanté de la compétition a ajouté : « Malgré le mauvais temps, ce fut un excellent concours, super bien organisé, un beau travail. Les Canadiens ont bien performé, toujours parmi les premiers. Il y a plusieurs chevaux sans expérience dans le petit tour qui en sont à leur première année de compétition, et malgré tout ils ont bien réussi ».
