| For Immediate Release May 1, 2006 Contact: Dave Thind e-mail: dthind@equinecanada.ca Media Relations and Communications, Equine Canada Tel: (613) 248-3433 ext. 136 Kathryn Duke Finishes 5th at the Twin Rivers CCI* Three Day Event Ottawa Ontario -In a field of 40 entries, Canadian Young Rider, Kathryn Duke of Calgary, AB finished fifth in the CCI* division of the Twin Rivers International Three Day Event . The event was held April 21-23 at Twin Rivers Ranch in Paso Robles, CA. Duke was one of six Canadians to take part in the CCI * while the CCI ** division saw three Canadians compete. Partnered with Patricia Duke’s 12-year-old Selle Francais gelding Eliot III, the pair incurred no penalties in the cross country and show jumping phases of the competition which meant finishing on Duke’s dressage score of 58.9. “This was my first FEI international three day event and everything went really well. I had my best dressage test ever, the cross country went smoothly and the show jumping went better than it has in the recent past,” stated the 19-year-old full-time student. Also competing in CCI* division were Canadians Claire Roper, 21, of Vancouver, BC who finished eleventh aboard her 12-year-old Canadian Thoroughbred, Royal Holly,. Rebeka Ryvola of White Rock, BC with Canadian Thoroughbred bred Theatrix who placed 21st, and Danielle Ziehike of Sherwood Park, AB with Canadian Thoroughbred Glasgow Dancer who finished in 25th place. Also competing in the CCI* division were 2004 Olympic rider Hawley Bennett of Langley BC with Gin N’ Juice and Rebecca Lee of Bon Accord, AB with Gold Twist. Both horses are owned by Linda Paine. The division was won by American Kelly Trather on Ballinakill Glory. Duke, who majors in psychology at the University of Calgary, purchased Eliot III last year. Due to a injury which meant a six month lay-up, her Selle Francais gelding has only been back in work since early January. Competing in a CCI** three day event for the first time, young rider Kathryn Morgan of Kelowna, BC finished in 16th place with Dagmar Fortmuller’s Hanoverian gelding Galileo . Also competing in the division were Talia Wells of Calgary Alberta with her own New Heights and Lisa Marie Fergusson of Langley, BC with Uni Griffon There was a total of twenty eight competitors in the CCI** division which was won by American Robyn Fisher riding Lady Calido. About Canadian Eventing Canadian Eventing is a committee of Equine Canada responsible for the sport of eventing in Canada from the grassroots to the international level. The Canadian Eventing Committee is comprised of 12 members, including two rider representatives elected by the Elite Riders Association. Communiqué pour publication immédiate Kathryn Duke classée 5e au CCI* du Concours complet Twin Rivers International Ottawa, Ontario, le 1e mai 2006 – Kathryn Duke de Calgary, en Alberta, a pris le cinquième rang de la division CCI* du concours complet Twin Rivers International. L’épreuve, qui regroupait 40 concurrents, était présentée du 21 au 23 avril dernier au Twin Rivers Ranch de Paso Robles en Californie. Le CCI* comptait six concurrents canadiens, dont Duke, tandis que trois Canadiens prenaient part à la division CCI**. La Jeune Cavalière, en selle sur Eliot III, le Selle français de 12 ans de Patricia Duke, n’a commis aucune faute tant à la phase de cross qu’en franchissant le parcours de saut d’obstacles. Sa marque finale était donc celle de sa reprise de dressage, soit 58,9. « C’était mon premier concours complet international FEI et tout s’est déroulé à merveille. Ma reprise de dressage fut la meilleure que j’aie jamais exécutée, je n’ai eu aucun pépin dans le cross-country et ma performance en saut d’obstacles a été meilleure que tout ce que j’ai fait récemment, » a mentionné cette étudiante à plein temps de dix-neuf ans. Toujours dans la division CCI* on retrouvait Claire Roper (Vancouver, C.-B.), 21 ans, onzième sur Royal Holly, son Pur-sang canadien de 12 ans. Rebeka Ryvola (White Rock, C.-B.) s’est classée 21e sur le Pur-sang canadien, Theatrix, Danielle Ziehike (Sherwood Park, Alberta) était 25e sur Glasgow Dancer, un autre Pur-sang canadien. La cavalière des olympiques de 2004, Hawley Bennett (Langley, C.-B.), était également de la partie avec Gin N’ Juice, de même que Rebecca Lee (Bon Accord, Alberta) sur Gold Twist. Ces deux chevaux appartiennent à Linda Paine. C’est l’Américaine Kelly Trather qui a été victorieuse dans cette division sur Ballinakill Glory. Kathryn Duke, qui se spécialise en psychologie à l’Université de Calgary, a fait l’acquisition de Eliot III l’an dernier. En raison d’une blessure qui l’a obligé à prendre six mois de repos, son hongre Selle français n’est revenu au travail qu’au début de janvier. Dans la division CCI**, Kathryn Morgan, une Jeune Cavalière de Kelowna, en Colombie-Britannique, dont c’était la première participation dans un concours de ce niveau, a pris le 16e rang sur Galileo, le Hanovrien de Dagmar Fortmuller. Talia Wells (Calgary, Alberta) y prenait également part sur son cheval New Heights, ainsi que Lisa Marie Fergusson (Langley, C.-B.) sur Uni Griffon. On dénombrait vingt-huit participants dans ce CCI** qui a été remporté par l’Américaine Robyn Fisher sur Lady Calido. Quelques mots sur Concours Complet Canadien Concours Complet Canadien est le comité de Canada Hippique responsable du sport de concours complet depuis le niveau de base jusqu’au sport international. Concours Complet Canadien comprend douze membres dont deux représentants sont élus par l’Association des cavaliers d’élite. Tel que le prévoit le plan stratégique du sport, toutes les activités de concours complet sont régies par ce comité via six sous-comités, avec le soutien de la directrice du concours complet basée dans les bureaux de Canada Hippique à Ottawa.
